Latin America is facing a significant skills gap. A reported 37 percent of companies in the region find it difficult to fill job vacancies, particularly for technical positions. One of the major efforts to overcome this skills gap is to provide funding for students in higher education to study abroad through programs such as Brazil’s Scientific Mobility Program (BSMP) and Mexico’s FOBESII (Bilateral Forum on Higher Education, Innovation and Research) partnership.

Qatar University has topped a list of the world’s most international institutions, based on data from the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-2016.

The United Kingdom is the global leader in high-quality undergraduate education for international students, with international undergraduate students rating the UK number one for student satisfaction, ahead of the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany and New Zealand, the research found. The UK also "excels in teaching and learning”, according to research released by the UK Higher Education International Unit at Universities UK.
MNA: This is an unprecedented initiative on the part of the Mexican government, that was launched in 2013, by President Peña Nieto and President Obama, and the rationale is if Mexico is the third economic partner to the US, we are to be the third educational partner. The number one partner in terms of education is China, they mobilise close to 300,000 students, faculty, teachers to the US – that gives you an idea of the strategy that China has in terms of internationalisation worldwide. The second place is held by India, and the third place is held by Korea.
Announcing the initiative, Minister of Public Education Aurelio Nuño Mayer said he hopes to realise his ambition that “In 10 or 20 years, the country will be bilingual”, despite concerns about a shortage of qualified English language teachers in Mexico. "English is the language through which we can all communicate; it is a tool and cornerstone for professional development and to modernise,” he said. That’s why Provost Lorrie Clemo, a member of the ACE Fellows Class of 2007-08, authorized the university’s Institute for Global Engagement (IGE), under the direction of IGE director Ulises Mejias, to create a series of faculty development awards to encourage course internationalization.
The number of researchers has risen by 21% to 7.8 million since 2007 with a corresponding explosion in scientific publications, according to the newly-released UNESCO Science Report: Towards 2030. The 2015 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, released today, finds the number of international students at U.S. colleges and universities had the highest rate of growth in 35 years, increasing by 10 percent to a record high of 974,926 students in the 2014-15 academic year.
