The Trump administration announced Tuesday that it will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, through which about 800,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children have gained the right to work and temporary protection against the risk of deportation. The administration said it will phase out the program, which was established by President Obama in 2012, after a six-month period to give Congress a chance to act on legislation that could restore the program.

The release of The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's 94 "Calls to Action" in 2015 has proven to be a watershed moment in the history of the relationship between Canada and Canadian Indigenous Peoples. Many institutions at many levels began struggling with the process of reconciliation within the framework of their day-to-day operations and mandates. It is becoming evident to anybody who is closely watching this process unfold in many different settings across the country, that it is a lot harder than it may have seemed at first glance.

"Ontario has announced that it plans to create the province's first French-language university to be governed by and for Francophones. In consultation with the francophone community, the province's French-language University Planning Board has provided recommendations for the creation of a French-language university in Central and Southwestern Ontario. After viewing the recommendations, ON will introduce legislation for the creation of the proposed university in the coming months.

A handful of local university students are touring parts of Japan to better understand the devastating effects of the country's 2011 nuclear disaster and the problems that persist.

Five graduate students from McMaster University's radiation sciences program landed in Japan on Wednesday for a 10-day tour of the Fukushima region where they'll spend time in a restricted zone, stay with families devastated by the disaster and tour the wrecked Fukushima Daiichi power plant, the site of the nuclear meltdown.

As an anglophone Montrealer who attended English schools throughout her academic career and rated her French fluency as merely “OK,” Serena Trifiro did not consider enrolling at the Université de Montréal to obtain her law degree to be her first choice.

After passing the notoriously difficult Quebec bar exam on her first try and quickly finding work in her field, however, she has come to see the move as a minor godsend.
