The CEGEP (Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel) is the first level of higher education in Québec, leading either to university studies or employment in a technical profession. CEGEPs are the equivalent of community and technical colleges in the U.S., and the Universidades Tecnológicas (UT) in Mexico. CEGEPs offer a two-year pre-university curriculum as well as three-year programs in a wide array of technical disciplines including administration, agribusiness, and the graphic arts. CEGEPs have been active internationally for over 20 years through faculty and student exchange, internships abroad, and projects in developing countries. The CEGEP system is currently organizing collaborative programs with the technological universities in Mexico and technical colleges in Wisconsin and is looking to expand further.
